Please have a beautiful and blessed holiday season, and please stay safe. As always, thank you for your support and generosity. Another great year for Strawberry Hill Fiber Studio. Next year brings new and exciting products, so watch this space for updates!
Today is a big day in the studio. I just restocked several pounds of undyed merino and corriedale cross top roving for hand-dyed fiber braids, dyed merino for custom blended fiber batts, and undyed prespun sock skeins for hand dying. Now the creative part of the journey begins. I’ll post pictures and links to YouTube…
Today in the Dye Pots
Some days I just need color, and lots of it! I’m not ordinarily a huge speckler while I’m dyeing, but today just felt like a speckle kind if day. There are other colors dyeing now but I can’t take pics yet so you’ll just have to wait.
At what I’ve been working on. The fall collection RIVENDELL will launch in the next few days. Subscribers to the newsletter (sign-up link at the top of the page) will get a 10% discount to all of the yarn in this collection.
A Day at the Dye Pots
Look for these two tonals in DK in the next shop update. I’ll post pics as they’re cooled, washed and dried as well.
My View This Morning
While the snow is beautiful, it can play havoc on shipping to and fro. I received an email from UPS and apparently my yarn bases won’t arrive until Monday. Sigh. In the meantime I have orders to pack and ship and some knitting to get finished. Knitting time is always a favorite time. I ordered…
Not only is it Monday but we started the day with 10″ of fresh snow. We’re supposed to get another 6″ tomorrow. I hope it’s clear for Halloween later this week, at least. Other than the snow, we’re doing well at Casa Strawberry Hill. I did get a ship notice on some new yarn bases…
Superwash Wool vs Non-Superwash Wool
Superwash wool and non-superwash wool take dye in very different ways. The picture above is my “Snow Apple” colorway. It’s a myriad of crimson hues in one skein. The bigger DK weight skein on the left is 80% non-superwash merino wool and 20% cashmere. The fingering weight skein on the right is 75% superwash wool…
The Best Days
Are Dye Days
A Day at the Dye Pots: SOLEIL & TITANIA
These two beautiful colorways are available now in the shop (while supplies last). SOLEIL FOUND HERE and TITANIA FOUND HERE Now you can see how they’re dyed.
I was dyeing a new colorway (Soleil) and an old colorway (Titania) today on my wool/silk 80/20 fingering base. After everything was said and done and in the pans cooling I sat back looking at my work and realized – I just dyed the color combo the Reyna shawl I’m knitting (you can find pics…
A Custom Order Kind of Morning
Working on another custom order…This is a beautiful SW Merino/Silk base. The order was so light a grey it just takes the warm off the base. Then light blue speckles. It’s gorgeous!Like it?
Today at the Dye Pots: Franken Dyeing a Custom Order
I’m dyeing a big custom order today. I love times like this when I have to get creative. Necessity is the mother of invention. This yarn base is 100% merino so I have to go low and slow with it. Hence all of the ties and hoists. And ready to ship… A link to more…
